The holidays are right around the corner, and for interior designers, it's the perfect time to show your amazing clients how much you appreciate their trust and partnership. But let's be honest, finding the perfect client gift can be tough! You want something that feels personal, reflects your design sensibilities, and makes them feel valued. Generic gift baskets just won't cut it.

As a virtual assistant to many interior designers, I've seen firsthand how the right gift can strengthen client relationships and leave a lasting impression. This year, opt for something with a little more heart. To help you out, I've put together a list of thoughtful gift ideas for interior design clients that are sure to impress them.

First, Why Personalized Gifts Are a Must for Interior Designers

In the world of interior design, personalization is key. You spend your days crafting spaces that uniquely reflect your clients' personalities and lifestyles. So, why should your client gifts be any different?

Think of it this way: a generic gift says "thank you," but a personalized gift says, "I APPRECIATE you." It shows that you've taken the time to consider their individual preferences and that you value the relationship beyond the business transaction. This extra touch can go a long way in building client loyalty and creating lasting connections.

1. Personalized Home Decor: Gifts That Reflect Their Style

What better way to show your appreciation than with a personalized gift that complements their beautiful home? At this point, you've gotten to know them and their home very well and finding that cherry on top gift will really show them how much you care. This gift could be anything from a cozy throw pillow with their initials to a custom piece of art that resonates with their design aesthetic. Etsy is my favorite spot to find personalized gifts - you can order custom gifts, monogrammed goods, or just something niche that you know they'd love.

Here are a few ideas to spark your creativity:

  • Monogrammed Throw Pillows: A luxurious throw pillow embroidered with their initials adds a touch of elegance and personalization to any space.

  • Framed Art Prints: Let's say your clients loooove their dog. You can find an artist on Etsy to create a custom print of their dog in a style that goes with your interior design aesthetic. They will love it.

You already know this, but when selecting personalized gifts, keep their existing home decor in mind. Pay attention to the colors, textures, and overall style they gravitate towards.

2. Charitable Donations: Gifts That Give Back

For the client who values social responsibility, consider making a charitable donation in their name. This is a truly meaningful gesture that shows you care about the causes they support.

To make this gift extra special, do some research to identify a charity that aligns with their values or interests. Perhaps they're passionate about environmental conservation, animal welfare, or supporting the arts. Choose a reputable organization with a clear mission and impact.

Present the gift with a personalized card explaining the donation and why you chose that particular charity. This unique client gift is both thoughtful and impactful.

If you're totally stuck on which organization, feel free to give them the option to choose which organization to donate to!

3. Experiences: Create Lasting Memories

Sometimes the best gifts aren't material possessions but rather unforgettable experiences. Consider gifting your clients tickets to a local art exhibit, a concert, or a cooking class. If they mentioned that they've always wanted to visit Spain and love the Mediterranean diet then a paella cooking class would be perfect. If they're new to the area then gift them tickets to your favorite local museum.

Tailor the experience to their interests. Do they love exploring new restaurants? Treat them to a culinary adventure. Are they passionate about architecture? Gift them tickets to a tour of historical buildings or a design museum.

Experiences create lasting memories and provide an opportunity for your clients to enjoy something they love. It's a fantastic way to show your appreciation and strengthen your bond.

4. Luxury Candles or Diffusers: A Sensory Delight

Help your clients create a tranquil and inviting atmosphere in their homes with the gift of luxurious scents. High-quality candles or diffusers are a wonderful way to enhance their space and promote relaxation.

When selecting scents, consider their personal preferences and the overall aesthetic of their home. Opt for sophisticated fragrances from reputable brands. You can find beautiful candles and diffusers at specialty candle stores, department stores, or online retailers.

Whenever they smell their candle they will remember the beautiful interior that you created for them.

5. Coffee Table Books: Inspire and Delight

Coffee table books are a classic gift that can provide hours of enjoyment and inspiration. Choose books that align with their interests, whether it's architecture, interior design styles, photography, travel, or their favorite hobbies.

For a truly special touch, consider a limited edition or signed copy of a book by their favorite author or designer. This adds a level of exclusivity and thoughtfulness to your gift.

There are limitless cool coffee table books but some of my favorites are from Assouline, espeically if your clients love to travel.

The Gift of Appreciation

No matter which gift you choose, remember that the most important element is thoughtfulness. Take the time to consider your client's individual preferences and show them that you truly value their partnership.

By choosing client appreciation gifts that are both personal and meaningful, you can cultivate stronger relationships, build loyalty, and make this holiday season truly special for your clients.
